How to study
Creating the perfect study environment
can be a difficult task, especially with so many distractions that can occur. Studying
is a very important task to use in order to get good grades. Good grades are
important in order to get to a good college. Going to a good college can ensure
a good education. An established education can qualify you for a high paying
career. As you can see from this strenuous train of occurrences, study is
important. Everyone person is different, meaning everyone has different study
patterns. For example, if you are a hand on learner, maybe flash cards are the
way to go for you. For me personally, I go through a routine that might be
similar to others, but it is strict, and if I don’t follow the guideline, I wouldn’t
be able to focus.
First it is very important to set
your surroundings. It doesn’t matter what place you are in or inside or
outside, as long as you are not in a wild jungle, you will most likely be able
to study. Even if you don’t have a desk, it is still possible to get work done.
Whether you are sitting on the floor, at a table, in a bean bag chair, or in
the dirt, imagine yourself calm. If you are stressed out trying to study it
will not end in a good result. Being overwhelmed can be conquered with three
long deep breaths, in and out. After you are firmly content in one area, calm
and ready to go, you can begin to look at what you have in front of you. If you
have only one subject to study, then this won’t be a big issue for you, but if
you have finals approaching this is recommended for you. Make sure you know
what you need to study. Get organized. Write down or plan out in your head a
list of everything you need to get done. Once you have done that, and then lay
out all papers or books you are studying from directly in front of you. Now,
the first thing on your list is the first thing you want to concentrate on.
Only do one thing at a time, because that is all you can do. Place neatly
everything else you will study later under your desk or beside you. Now this is
a big step, jumping into studying. First, make sure you have plenty of caffeine
to keep you awake and snack to keep you going. Put ALL distractions aside. That
includes, “Iphone” or any other cellular device that you can text with), computer
that can instantly lead you to “Facebook” or Twitter, and people. It’s very
important when study that you have alone time for yourself and your brain. Your
friends may seem harmless, but trust me; they can be the difference of an A or
B. If you are study together for a test you both have, make sure you do prep
work and after studying, because even though you plan on focusing the entire
time, it most likely will turn into a gossip session or complaining about your “wicked
mean teacher”. Now that you have created a distraction free zone, it is time to
dive in. Begin with making flashcards or completely reading over your notes.
Make sure you take timely breaks to ensure you are fully focusing on what you
are doing. Concentration is key. You can read an entire book and not understand
a word of it. Next important element is not to overload yourself. Continue to
study, yet don’t try to cram everything in, or just teach yourself new things
at this time. You should only be reviewing, because if you don’t know it by
now, you probably won’t know it for the test. So it is important to keep up regularly
with class homework and review class notes. Once you have gone over everything
in that subject go onto the next one, if you have one. If not take a short
break and get back at it. Even if you feel you didn’t study enough for that one
subject and you have others to study for, it is important to look at your other
work as well. You can always go back and review.
After you have finished reviewing, the
next very important part is to sleep. Without getting a full nights rest it can
be extremely hard to maintain full potential on a test. So make sure to succor yourselves
and you’ll be fine. Don’t stress over finals. I know from experience that
needing to get a good grade is tiresome, but you will only freak yourselves
out. The final thing you need is confidence. Go into that test ready, believe
in yourself, you have studied and you are ready. If you create a good atmosphere,
with the right settings, and maintain concentration, you will be an “A+” studier
in my book. One last thing to remember when studying is try your hardest and
you will succeed. Good job and good luck!
